The Establishment of Jamu Bukti Mentjos
Jamu Bukti Mentjos is a herbal medicine company established in Solo. Until now, Jamu Bukti Mentjos has been running for three generations in serving the community. Originally named Jamu Bukti, it was founded by Tan Som Nia, who was also known as Mammie Ong, around the 1940s in Singosaren, Solo.
Move to Jakarta
Around the 1950s Mammie Ong moved to Jakarta, and started “Jamu Bukti” at Jalan Salemba Tengah No. 48, Central Jakarta. The name Jamu Bukti later became Bukti Mentjos because the location was in Pasar Mentjong (a market at an intersection), which later became popular as Jamu Bukti Mentjos.
Many Customers
The public’s enthusiasm Mammie Ong's herbal medicine has been high. Every morning until evening, along with her employees, Mammie Ong was busy serving customers who had lined up. If Mammie Ong was traveling, her younger brother, Kee Boo, together with his wife, Er Kien, would help her.
Business Progress
In the early 1950s, the store building was still a hut. As the business grew, the hut became a permanent building (between the 1950s and 1980).
Transformation into a Jamu Cafe
Since 2000, the store has been expanded into a herbal cafe, so that visitors can enjoy herbal medicine more casually while tasting other warm dishes, such as wedang ronde and various porridge. The visitors are not only ordinary people, but also many foreign guests. And not only adults but also teenagers and even children.
From generation to generation
Mammie Ong has three children, the second of whom, Tuty Marikangen, inherited her love for jamu and continued her mother's business. Tuty, who was married to Paul Romuli, is the mother of Horatius Romuli.
Successor of Jamu Bukti Mentjos
As the third generation successor of Jamu Bukti Mentjos, Horatius Romuli's love for jamu has been proven for more than 30 years. Since 1985, Romuli has been directly involved in developing the production and sales of the herbal products. Currently, Romuli is also active in the Indonesian Herbal Entrepreneurs Association.
